I have two laptops already and when I decide to upgrade to a new one in the future, I have looked at Apple Notebooks, from what I hear is that they are way better then Windows. I want to use it for the internet mainly, and music and pictures. Let me know anything you love about the Mac. Best answer will be given to the person with the most detailed and honest answer.

I own a mac notebook (2ghz, core 2 duo w/ 80 gb hard drive) almost a yr., my only experience has been with windows before buying mac, it’s not a difficult transition to make. It works fine on the internet, I’ve been able to gain online access at no cost since having the notebk. because of the wifi card inside, but internet cards won’t work since there’s no port but u can check w/ apple to see if they can install one & ask for cost, I know verizon claims they’ll be coming out w/ a usb type of internet card but haven’t checked it out lately; safari is as good a browser as netscape. One thing I like about having a mac is that pictures and video are excellent and music sounds good on the mac, I’ve dnlded music and there was no problem, except u may want a set of speakers because the built in spkrs are not very loud (for instance can’t hear my music if i’m in my kit. doing dishes); u should go to the apple website or go to an apple store in your city their staff is very helpful and u can try out one of the notebooks, ask quests b4 u purchase; what I love the most is Itunes and streaming music, I get to listen to stations that don’t get reached on home stereo, haven’t tried watching dvds but the picture on the notebk. is excellent. Plus mac geniuses will give u assistance @ any apple loc., word processing software is a separate fee (they’ll sell you the student version of Microsoft word $149);
One important thing that sets macs apart from windows based systems is that macs are virus free and it’s not nec. to purch. antivirus prog., don’t have one on mine & haven’t had any problems. If windows is really important to you then wait until next yr. to buy your mac because apple is going to re-lease O/S called Leopard that will enable windows programs to be run on mac, go to the apple site & check it out, the program is called bootcamp (currently sold by apple but not supported by their technicians, guessing once they make bootcamp avail w/ new OS then they can help with installing windows progs. like wordperfect etc.)

If u buy a macbk. or computer, don’t extend the applecare protection program after 90 days of ownership–it’s only for phone tech support–just go to the store in your area if there are any questions or problems; they also give free beginners classes at their stores.

I’m still learning a lot of different things but it’s a good computer I won’t ever go back to windows; I’m a writer so other than my work I use it for the internet, music and pictures also.

does cleaning dust etc out of notebook/laptop computers make the computer better in anyway?

Because im a clean freak xD i want to clean my inside of my laptop ( not inside inside , inside as in the parts you can get inside easy) .Will cleaning the laptop make the laptop last longer, run faster or anything like that? Or even not get as hot.

Yeah, computers are designed in such a way that the fan blows air over components that need to stay at a certain temperature. You can think of it sort of line a line of air swiring around inside your computer. If something blocks this stream of air, in this case dust, components can get so hot that they literally burn out. Those little dust blower things are great. I clean mine out every 3 months. It’s fun to get into all the little cracks and shoot big clumps of dust out.

Host laptop carries Windows XP n other one is having VISTA HOME..
I m able to share n browse both laptop contains in both laptops but the problem is i m not able to browse INTERNET in the one carrying VISTA.
So what is missing in Internet Connection Sharing ???

Well it is not a big deal, in case I’ve already shared files and folders. But let me just warn you that sharing the connection means, technically half of the total bandwidth speed. But sharing it within the 2 computers/Laptops will result in much more loses. bu the details you provided are not sufficient to guide you step by step procedure. but in short. First of all, You need to assign IP addresses manually to both of the laptops (just assign manual IPs to the LAN connection connecting these 2 Laptops. Now on the Laptop-2(without internet connection), try to ping the Ip address of the Laptop-1 (with internet) in gateway of laptop-2, put the Ip of the Laptop-1. Note down the DNS address from Laptop-1’s net connection, put them in the the DNS of the Laptop-2. And finally share the internet connection in the LAN of the Laptop-1. I know it sounds confusing. But it is the best way for you without spending anything, except your BRAIN. good Luck

I want to buy a new laptop, would you recommend Averatec? What should I buy?

I like mine and have had no problems. You get what you pay for I guess. Avertec’s are light, and have good style, but they skimp on the hard drive speed and processor speed. Other than that, they are pretty good. My 4155 has a beautiful screen and it is very light. I’m happy.

Does anyone know any good computers for gaming?

I need a computer that’s good for gaming but still has the necessary programs for work and school(i.e. microsoft word 2006 and Powerpoint) My friend suggested Alienware but does anyone have specifics?

Honestly, the best computers are the ones you build yourself, but I’ll assume you’re not that type of users. If you’re interested though, begin researching on parts and which component does what, and then buy it and put it all together, it’s really fun

BUT, if you want a pre-built computer, as your friend said, Alienware is pretty good, but be careful as they’ve got everything from below $1000 computers all the way to $6000+ "bling" computers, so make sure you look at the specs before you buy.

You would have to do quite a few things to make this happen. The easiet would be to setup accounts for them that are locked down accounts. You would create an administrator account that gives you only access to the configurations of windows. From the administrative account, you can allow or deny them access to certain aspects of windows.

The other option is to connect to your neighbors wireless, find his printer, and print out a note telling him he needs to lock down his wireless. I have done that before

Question about labtop and desktop computers?

I have a desktop and I want to get a lab top. I’m not computer savvy so I want to know how I can get my files like iTunes and all my photos saved to the new lab top hard drive?

Short, sweet, and to the point answer:

Buy a flash drive, plug it into the computer, put as many files on it as it will hold, eject and plug into the laptop, drag all of the files out of the flash drive, format (to get rid of existing files on the flashdrive) plug back into your desktop, repeat.

How do I network a bunch of computers already sharing an internet connection?

My computers are all successfully sharing a dsl internet connection via a wireless router. But I can’t figure out how to get them to see each other on a file sharing network, What am I missing? No single computer can see any other computers, but they can all use the dsl connection. What gives? I’ve networked the old fashioned way before so what am I missing?

The faster/easier way to get from one computer to another is to just go to start>run, type \computername, hit ok, and it will show all the shared files/printers avaliable on that computer.

If you would really like to go the long browsing way just make sure each computer is in the same workgroup here:
rightclick on my computer and go to properties
go to computer name
click change
enter your workgroup name/make sure it is correct
hit ok on everything (including restart)
All of the computers should now appear in the same workgroup in my network places.

How to build a game console which works with TV input out of computer parts?

So is it possible to build out a game console (Not a fancy commercial console, but one that can run .exe’s and is just a time killer) out of computer parts? It needs to be compatible with the TV with input and plug usage, and if this can’t be done, is it possible to mod something like a Playstation 1 into one’s own modded game console?

Sure it is!! A game console is nothing more than a computer. Take, for example, the Wikipedia article on the Wii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii#Technical_specifications ). You will see all the specs for that console, pretty much the same as the ones you would find when buying your computer.

For the TV output, you would need a video card that supports TV out, but that shouldn’t be too hard to find.

The hardest part of your project will be the software platform. Running .exe files will require that you use Windows as your console operating system (part of what exe’s do is actually done by Windows). Except running Windows on it won’t feel too much like a console now, will it? The solution to that: I can think of many different ways to work around that, but none of them are easy to implement – you might need the help of a friend who happens to be a computer scientist.
