Will the computers be in the same network? In that case you can transfer the files through your network, otherwise the easiest way is to get an usb stick and transfer them that way!

Short, sweet, and to the point answer:

Buy a flash drive, plug it into the computer, put as many files on it as it will hold, eject and plug into the laptop, drag all of the files out of the flash drive, format (to get rid of existing files on the flashdrive) plug back into your desktop, repeat.

First of all, it’s a LAP top (for the reason of it sitting on your LAP).
Anyway, either get a thumb drive of a reasonable memory amount (perhaps 4GB) or get a portable hard drive. That way, you can make copies of all your pictures and iTunes and put them on your laptop… then you’ll have your files saved in 3 places (your desktop, laptop, and your portable drive).

or you could need a removale harddrive, if your ipod has a lot of memory 30-80 gs than you can enable it as a storage device right in itunes and than go to my computer and it will show up there and you can just add the files you want to it

If you have a high speed connection and a router, simply connect both computers to the same LAN, create a workgroup on both computers with the same name and enable file sharing between the computers (google file sharing for step by step directions) and from your laptop you can just open a folder from your old computer, drag and drop the files. I did this yesterday between my new desktop and my old desktop that is now my parents desktop and it's actually a lot easier then it sounds.

You would need to copy them to something like a CD, DVD, or flash drive, then take them over to the laptop and place them into matching directories on the new PC.

Easiest way (tech speaking) is to by a thumb stick. D/L to it, stick it the other, and upload.

A slightly more difficult way is to buy a cable to connect the two. Ask any computer store, they’ll help.

More difficult way is to buy a wireless router and set up a home network. Again, a computer store can help you with that.

You have to transfer them. For itunes there is a way to back up your music collection to a dvd. For other files on the computer you could use dvd’s as data disks. An external harddrive would also work as you can transfer everything over from computer A then transfer to computer B. You could use a flash drive or even a transfer cable… a lot of options…
