I want to buy a new laptop, would you recommend Averatec? What should I buy?
I like mine and have had no problems. You get what you pay for I guess. Avertec’s are light, and have good style, but they skimp on the hard drive speed and processor speed. Other than that, they are pretty good. My 4155 has a beautiful screen and it is very light. I’m happy.

I am interested in buying one, but I don’t want to buy it only to be ripped off. Also, what laptop of theirs would you recommend?
Let’s address a few cherished myths from the MS Fanboy club.???
Having a UNIX BSD base, OSX is a far more stable and secure system, and not prone to viruses. And for those who still insist on quoting that tired old myth about market share and viruses: UNIX varients are the most widely used operating systems outside the home, yet they suffer none of what windows suffers.???
Apple does NOT make all the software for Macs. They make the operating system, the iLife suite (bundled with Macs), and a couple of others. I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and a smattering of other apps for my work. I have the same apps at home, plus a few dozen games, including the best sellers.???
They’re very easy to upgrade, and come with pretty good hardware out of the box. The kind of set-up most PCs upgrade to. If you were to configure a PC to the same specs as an iMac or MacPro, and add comparable software that Apple includes, that PC would cost a little more than the Mac. You get what you pay for.???
Peripherals are plug and play, and yes, Mac’s have come with multi-function mice for a few years now.
There are hundreds of periferals and upgrades available for many, many companies.???
Macs can have multiple operating systems loaded. You can be running in native OSX, and run windowze through parallels (we have one at work doing this) so we can used the ONE PC app we need, that isn’t available for a Mac (Publisher). ??
I’ve used both systems. Windowze is clunky and bloated by comparison. A pain in the cyber-butt. ???
Apple innovates.?MS Imitates.
I have a DSL router connected to an 8 way hub. the 7 other lines go to other computers that can all see eachother and one is hooked up to a neetgear wireless router. All my firewalls are off and all computers run XP pro. It doesn’t matter if I use the wireless or hard wire into it, I can’t see any other computers. If I take the netgear router out of the equation and plug straight into the laptop all computers can see eachother. I’m sure I have to change something on the netgeat router, but what?
So your setup looks like this?
DSL Router — Hub –Wireless router — laptop
|
7 other computers.
Is the hub connected to the WAN port or the LAN port of your wireless router? If it’s connected to the WAN port, try the LAN port. The laptop should be connected to a LAN port.
i need a cheap small laptop computer for my collage classes. The Computer also needs internet

You will likely need a lot of startup capital.
If your idea is really good, you can try to present it before Angel investors and venture Capitalists.
I am confused in how I am supposed to connect my computer to a wireless router.Do I need a card also for my laptop?
If your laptop is relatively new, it should come with a built in wireless card. Some laptops have switches to turn on the wifi radio so you might have to look for that. If it’s an old laptop, it might not have wifi (or a supported standard of wifi) so you’ll have to buy a wireless card for it. These usually plug into the pcmia slot on your laptop which is commonly used for peripherals. You might also be able to find a wireless adapter, which is a usb device
As for your desktop, most don’t come with wireless setup, so you’ll most likely have to buy a wireless card which plugs into a pci slot in the computer. The usb wireless adapters should also work fine with this setup.
If you’ve followed your router’s manual and set it up correctly, installed drivers on both machines (assuming they actually needed them), then all you really need to do right click on the network icon in your system tray and select which network you’d want to connect to. If you set up a password, enter that.
Of course, I’ve greatly simplified this and in no life is it really this simple. More often than not, you will run into some problems, but it’s probably a setting in your router. Good luck!

Great for your everyday needs, HP dv6000 notebook PC series is packed with everything you’d get in a desktop, plus the convenience of wireless mobility. Configure your notebook with a dedicated graphics card and load multiple web pages and streaming video without slowing your hard drive. Add the HP Imprint Finish for style and durability.
(a) Where did you buy your last laptop from?
(b) Out of 10, how you would rate the retailer for price and customer service?
(c) Why?
(a) My first laptop was a Toshiba, many years ago, running MS DOS 6.0. It has lasted to this very day, although I absolutely would not attribute such survivability to modern Toshibas, which have a reputation for melting. My latest laptop however, and most of my previous laptops for the last seven years or so, are from Dell, and I see no reason not to buy from them again in the future.
(b) I’d give them 8 out of 10.
(c) Dell’s laptops are sturdy and reliable (IN MY EXPERIENCE! Your mileage may vary!), and do not seem to incorporate quite so much bloatware as other manufacturers do these days. I have also had difficulty finding equivalent specced laptops at similarly low prices. Their customer service of late, however, leaves much to be desired. Ever since they moved towards outsourcing their call centres to India, I have found difficulty with customer services operatives having a poor command of the English language, little knowledge about the product itself, and long response times. For a short time I even ended up being charged twice on my last purchase, which as you can imagine I frantically made sure was reversed! I now have no choice but to deal with them over e-mail, as telephone calls frustrated me to the point of insanity.
As I mentioned though, your mileage may vary. Practically speaking most well-known manufacturers should be OK, and it comes down to a matter of personal choice in the end.
A friend of mine told me that one should disconnect the charger of a mobile phone or a notebook computer after they’re fully charged else the battery would get overcharged (hence damaged, shortening its life). I am of the belief that most cellphones and portable computers already cut-off the electricity supply to the device upon completion of charging, and there is no need to worry about overcharging.
What is the truth? Any other suggestions?
This use to be true that cell phones, laptops and other devises that have rechargeable technology when remanded plugged in after fully charge would lower the life of the battery. But today battery technology has advance that this no longer happens.
Now a days the battery will be charged till full then only receive the amount of voltage it needs to stay fully charge to not lower the life of the battery.
Battery technology is advancing fast and soon the market will get batteries that live longer and longer.
hello friends, I am trying to connect my laptop with my friends using remote desktop through internet.
I want to take access to my friends laptop screen.
Please tell me how to configure and connect two laptop using remote desktop connection in internet. We too are in different places, so I want to access his remote desktop screen from my place. I been trying but I am unable to do so. Please help me in configuring our two laptops. we too using the same laptops and same operating system( win XP pro).
Thank you
I can suggest to use netmeeting instead of Remote Desktop Connection. The reasons are;
1)Already installed on your laptop. If you cannot find the icon type "conf" on start->Run
2)There is a mechanism for accept reject incoming calls(some kind of security)
3)You can share one of your desktop view only or with full control.
4) If you prefer you can share only one application.
I am sure you will receive answers for RDC also. You need RDC only when you want to run a program on other laptop without disturbing other users.
